Whole Wheat Dill Bread Recipe

Whole Wheat Dill Bread


This whole wheat dill bread recipe provides the goodness of whole wheat with a twist of dill!

It's delicious with soups, or use in sandwiches.




Ingredients:

1 envelope (1/4 ounce) Active Dry Yeast
1/4 cup warm water (100º to 110ºF)
1 tablespoon sugar
2 cups cottage cheese
3 tablespoons honey 2 teaspoons Minced Onion
1/4 cup butter OR margarine, melted
1/4 cup dill seed
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
2 eggs, slightly beaten
4 to 4-1/2 cups whole wheat flour


Directions:

Prep Time: 25 minutes
Rise Time: 2 hours
Bake Time: 30 minutes
Makes: 16 slices

Dissolve yeast in water in large mixing bowl. Add sugar and let stand 5 minutes. Add cottage cheese, honey, onion, butter, dill seed, salt, soda and eggs; mix well. Add 3 cups flour; stir until combined.

Knead dough 15 minutes with remaining flour until smooth and elastic. Place dough in a greased bowl and cover with a clean towel or greased plastic wrap. Place over a bowl of hot water in an unheated oven. Let rise 1-1/4 hours or until double in size.

Punch down dough and divide in half. Shape each half into a loaf and place in greased 9 x 5-inch loaf pans. Cover; let rise 30 minutes or until double in size.

Preheat oven to 350°F. Bake 30 to 35 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool on wire rack.

Tip:  To speed rising, place dough over a bowl of hot water.
