Several years ago, I got a WonderMill Electric Grain Mill and have been using it ever since to grind wheat and other grains into flour. The grain mill has stood the test of time so when the company came out with the WonderMix Kitchen Mixer, I had to try it to see how it measured up to their other products. I have not been disappointed.
My experience with the WonderMix Kitchen Mixer
I’ve been using my WonderMix Kitchen Mixer for several years to mix heavy bread dough, and my favorite cookie dough. I also use the blender attachment (included) to make smoothies. It is so versatile!
I held off buying a heavy duty stand mixer for years preferring to mix my dough by hand; however, when I had surgery on my right index finger a few years ago, it made it a bit more difficult to manually handle the dough. The WonderMix came to the rescue. It makes easy work of mixing dough from the smallest batch up to eight loaves worth of dough.
Now that my finger is doing much better, I have the option of mixing by hand or in the mixer. I enjoy using the WonderMix for mixing and kneading enriched dough and for heavier dough.

The WonderMix is not just for mixing dough
This mixer does a great job handling batters and dough, but it can also handle a variety of others tasks such as whipping potatoes, making cookie dough, shredding meat, and mashing bananas, to name a few. With the patented TruMix™ technology, the possibilities are endless!
If you think the mixing capabilities are great, just wait until you try the attachments. I’ve been enjoying the attachments as much as the ability to mix dough. For a limited time, the company is including a blender and cookie whips with the standard unit and I’ve been taking advantage of both. The blender has a very powerful motor and I’ve used it to puree foods, make smoothies, and to chop nuts and sprouted berries. It hasn’t let me down.
- Blender Attachment
- Cookie Whips
The unit sits on my counter and because the mixer and the blender attach to the same base, it takes up less counter space. I gave my other blender away because this one is more powerful and doesn’t require extra space on my counter or in my cabinet.
Extend the capabilities of the WonderMix with these optional attachments (sold separately)
I’ve been using several of the other attachments to extend the capabilities of the mixer. These attachments are sold separately, but they are very useful.
Grain Flaker Attachment: The grain flaker is pretty cool! The grains go in and the flakes come out. I’ve flaked oat groats, rye berries and other types of grains for granola, cereal bars and breads. I spent a whole weekend just testing different grains. Some are too hard for flaking (unless you soak them), but even if the grains are too hard, I’ve found it works well for cracking them.
- Oat Groats
- Flaked Oats
- Rye Berries
- Rye Flakes
Grain Mill Attachment: The Grain Mill attachment has a knob that allows you to adjust the grind setting in increments from finely ground to coarser ground. I still enjoy using the larger capacity WonderMill grain mill, but I’ve found that the grain mill attachment makes things quick when you just want to grind a little bit of flour – like the green pea flour I used in this Sourdough Green Pea and Matcha Bread and the red lentil flour that I incorporated in this Sourdough Sweet Potato Loaf.
- Split Green Peas
- Split Green Peas Coarsely Ground
- Red Lentils Finely Ground
Meat Grinder Attachment: I recently tested the capabilities of the meat grinder to grind sprouted wheat berries for my favorite sprouted wheat bread. This particular bread is made with sprouted wheat only and no flour so it’s always been tricky finding a machine that was powerful enough to grind the sprouts into a workable dough.
I was delighted to learn that the meat grinder will grind sprouted wheat like a pro without a lot of effort on my part. The meat grinder attachment grinds the berries and the powerful WonderMix engine mixes and kneads the processed berries until the mass becomes a workable dough.
I will be sharing more about this process at a later time, but suffice it to say that I was totally thrilled with this discovery. I’ve burnt out two food processors testing and perfecting this sprouted wheat bread. No more! This baby can handle it with no problem.

- Ground Sprouts
- Add sprouts to Mixer bowl
- Knead Sprouts into Dough

Slicer Shredder Attachment: Comes with three stainless steel drums that are easy to interchange and even easier to clean:
The Universal Drum will finely grate anything from soft cheeses to hard fruits and hard vegetables. It will also finely grate hard cheeses.
Use the Coarse Drum to julienne fruits and vegetables for soups and salads. It easily juliennes cheeses for salads and toppings.
The Slicing Drum is great for slicing vegetables such as cabbage and carrots to use in coleslaw or potatoes for frying. If you want to dehydrate fruits and vegetables, it will give you a very thin and even slice.
